Britney’s Tour

December 12, 2008 at 4:12 am (1990s, 2000, 2009, britney is number one on the charts, britney spears, britneys tour, celebrity news, circus, concerts, entertainment, gossip, grammy awards?, hollywood, hollywood comeback stories, music, new albums)

I know that a lot of people thought Britney would never tour again. I was certainly one of them until I heard her new single, “womanizer”. I knew that she was going to be back. Why? Well, this song is very similar to her pre-crazy days like her “In the zone” album. That was a pretty decent album. Now, Blackout was probably one of the best albums she ever put out. However, I can also say that I get a lot of great writing done when I feel like I am about to lose my mind. I can’t tell you how many weird papers I wrote for all my English classes when I was running on 2hrs of sleep and drinking gallons of coffee. I think that could be my best work. Back to Britney, though. So, it seems like she is doing a lot better with her old manager and father by her side. Her documentary was a hit and she drew an insane crowd for her performance at GMA. Needless to say, Britney is back. She is back so much that they have now added more cities to her upcoming tour. She is now going on a 41-city tour. This coming off of 2 (or 5) insane years where the media was planning her funeral. It just shows that anyone can have a comeback in this business. Does that mean that Aaron Carter will be coming out with another solo album? I kindof hope not. But I can honestly say that I am very excited to see Britney when she comes to Pittsburgh in March!

Breaking News on an Entertainment “News” Program Seems Like an Oxymoron to Me

October 19, 2008 at 4:33 pm (2008 election, Funny stuff, Life in your 20's, Paris Hilton, blogging, breaking news, business, celebrities pushing for barack, culture, entertainment, entertainment news channels, entertainment news vs the real news, funny, humor, jokes, madonna divorce, making light of a terrible situation, music, new james bond movie, stock market crisis, television, where to find humor during these trying times)

Everytime I tune into the basic news channels lately it’s always about the election or about how our country’s economy is in the toilet. So I search for some kind of solace in the world of the entertainment business. I just find humor in the words, “breaking news” when I turn on E! News or ET. I get a little chuckle out of the fact that tragedy in the entertainment business is Madonna divorcing Guy Ritchie after 8 years of marriage. I think the world of entertainment news has always been warped but during these trying times I find humor out of this nonsensical news.

It’s kindof like I need to stop everything that I am doing to hear about the latest news from the “Hills” or what Justin Timberlake was wearing at the latest awards show. Who gives a shit?! I watch these shows to give my brain a break from the real news. I am sick of hearing about how my generation is screwed because President Bush screwed up so badly that the next president is climbing an uphill battle for the next 4 years (or 8). I hate waking up in the morning to Diane Sawyer telling me the stock market took another nosedive and that I shouldn’t even try investing my money. I should put it all away in hopes that the banks won’t go under. It’s a great feeling to be paying 1/3 of my earnings to FICA even though the system won’t be around for when I actually will need it. I think entertainment news gives me a break from the horrors of being 23 in this shitty, shitty world. I can laugh at the fat that Madonna, who has 250 million dollars to her name is getting divorced. Poor thing. She has it so hard, doesn’t she? And then there’s me who works 60 hour work weeks and struggling to pay off my student loans. Sometimes we all need to soak in some useless knowledge in order to regain our sanity.

I think the entertainment business is nothing but a running joke. Seeing all these celebrities out and about in their Louis Vuitton bags telling me to go out and vote. Just vote… that’s it. Oh wait, Vote for their favorite candidate– Barack Obama. They’re just supporting their country. Uh huh, sure. I know who I am voting for and have for quite some time now. I think anyone who listens to Kelsey Grammer (R) or Oprah (D) and decides who to vote for from their endorsement is an idiot. That is why I think the entertainment news are comedies compared to the “real” news channels (CNN, MSNBC, FOX). I believe it is a great juxtaposition to go from watching Jim Cramer telling me all my money will be worth squat in a few months and then hearing about the hot new James Bond film coming out this November. So, the next time you are feeling down about your 401K becoming non-existent just watch ET to find out what Paris Hilton has to tell Mary Hart about her new boyfriend and fragrance.

New Season of South Park

October 4, 2008 at 3:06 pm (Funny stuff, Life in your 20's, blogging, cartman for president, culture, entertainment, funny, humor, music, opinion, poop jokes, presidential election, ready for my shows to come back on the air, return of quality tv, return of scripted tv, return of south park, south park, south park is back, television, trey parker, wall street crisis)

Starting this weekend there is a marathon on Comedy Central that is entirely devoted to Cartman. This marathon starts every night at 11. This marathon is just the preparation for the start of the new season of South Park that begins October 8th. I can only imagine what the kids of South Park have in mind for this year’s crazy presidential election and the wall street madness. I think this season has some amazing potential because of all the crap that has been happening in the world lately. South Park, please don’t disappoint!

*** Remember that you all need to tune into Comedy Central this Wednesday!!!***

Really, Clay? You’re Gay? I had No Idea.

October 3, 2008 at 2:27 am (Funny stuff, Life in your 20's, american idol, blogging, clay aiken, clay aiken and his new baby, clay aiken on people magazine, culture, entertainment, funny, good morning america interviews, humor, music, spamalot, television)

My friend has been mentioning that I have yet to mention anything about Clay and his newfound gayness. Well, here’s the reason I didn’t write anything about this subject– Everyone already knew he was gay. There is no shocker ending to this tale. I do think it is a bit umm… weird that he had a child with his music producer “Friend”. I think it is creepy watching his elf-like face singing to his baby on GMA. I’ve never been a Claymate and I think those that are Claymates are interesting. Clay was so gay from the beginning of Idol to today. The only point of the matter is that he is on People Magazine trying so hard to be like Ellen. He even kindof looks like her too.

Another thing about Clay is that he is a Broadway star. Yes, star. He sells out Spamalot shows in NYC. People go to see him perform. I can’t knock him for that. But I can make fun of him for having a horrendous haircut. Clay, didn’t the stylist from Idol teach you anything about hair products?

TRL is Cancelled.

September 16, 2008 at 12:18 am (1990s boybands, 2gether, Carson Daly to return to TRL?, Funny stuff, Life in your 20's, MTV shows in the 1990s, TRL is cancelled, TRL is over, blogging, britney spears, britney spears' new album release in december, culture, eminem, eminem to come on final episode of TRL, entertainment, funny, growing up in the 1990s, humor, justin timberlake, lance bass, music, nsync reunion, opinion, television, where will the Jonas Brothers ever go?)

For all of us who went through our awkward teen years in the late 90’s early 2000’s it is a very sad day. TRL (Total Request Live) has been cancelled. The final episode is set to air in November on a Saturday. I gotta say, I’m kinda bummed yet, not surprised. As I have written before, MTV is in a tailspin. I was a HUGE fan of TRL when it came onto the scene in 1998. That is when the awesome boybands came out– nsync, bsb, 98 degrees… the list goes on, people. And I remember always wanting to be one of the people in the crowds outside the big studio windows on Broadway. I never got that chance, though. I did walk past MTV studios and let me tell ya, I’m not impressed. I’m surprised anyone could see into those windows.

I remember Carson Daly and how his overabundance of facial hair used to bother me. His neck was so hairy! It’s kinda gross!I also remember learning about all my favorite new artists at the time… Britney Spears, Christina Agulaira, Eminem. The most amazing guest for me, 2Gether. I know that those of you who were true TRL fans remember the fictional boyband 2Gether. I remember when they were on TRL (In real life and their movie). It was awesome seeing a live performance of U+Me=Us. I have to admit, Chad was my favorite. Haha! But still, TRL gave me these lasting memories and I am kindof sad that the show has come to an end. It was a slow and painful end, but still… it was a decent show in the beginning and that’s what I choose to remember- The good times. Remember the good times with me, won’t you?

There isn’t any news yet about Carson Daly making a cameo appearance on the show that made him famous. I really hope some famous people from the 90s and early 2000s make some appearances— Eminem “hint, hint”, Nsync reunion? “hint, hint”, Britney Spears performs (she does have a new album coming out in early December– it’s a possibility!!!

Well, I am sorry to see TRL finally die off but I can only imagine that the brass at MTV are already concocting a new, hipper show for the 2010 generation…. we can hope. :/

2008 VMAs… What is there to say?

September 8, 2008 at 6:07 pm (2008 VMAs, Chris Brown, Funny stuff, Life in your 20's, blogging, britney on 2008 vmas, britney wins big at vmas, christina a. lip syncing', culture, entertainment, funny, humor, jonas brothers, jordin sparks vs. russell brand, kanye west back on mtv, links, music, russell brand is awful, television, video, vma performances)

I am just as disappointed as the next person about the no Britney spears performance. I really thought she was going to open the show this year. I must say she did look very healthy and happy last night accepting 3 moonmen. But what about the rest of show?

Russell Brand (Host)– All I can say is, poor choice MTV. I really thought he was going to be funny. Apparently he is only funny when people give him funny scripts to read from. He was wayyyy too opinionated for the VMAs. I didn’t watch the VMAs to hear about Obama and George Bush. I watched the VMAs to be entertained. I could care less who he tells me who to vote for. It’s not like I take his opinion literally… he’s British god sake! I think MTV is seriously running on thin ice. This was supposed to be a huge night for the VMAs. It was 25th anniversary of the show and the host added nothing but rude and vulgar comments. I think his comments about purity rings was completely uncalled for. It is none of anyone’s business to know/care about the Jonas Bro’s personal lives. I could look past one comment about the rings but he kept saying things about the rings and basically just made fun of the poor boys the whole night. I say that next year Mtv, you need to pay whatever it is to get Chris Rock back.

Britney- This was her night. She came in, introduced the show ( she was obviously nervous) and won 3 moonmen. All I can say is that she looked great and I am very happy to see that she is on her way to comeback.

Performances- Rhianna did a wonderful job opening the show with her single, “disturbia”. It was a performance reminiscent of past VMAs. It was over-the-top and she sang live!

** Pink- She did very well utilizing the paramount set. I really enjoy her new song. I do not think it was up to par with Rhianna’s performance, though.

** Kid Rock- LAME. He is wayyto awkward looking on stage attempting to dance with Lil’ Wayne. I personally liked him better when he was a rapper. I don’t think he will ever top his 1999 VMA performance with Aerosmith and RUN DMC. Plus, I really hate his new single.

** Jonas Brothers– Very sweet, cutesy performance. I am sure all the little tweeners loved their new single, “Lovebug”. I think it is pretty cheesy but they are the ones making millions of dollars and selling out stadiums.

** Paramore– I am now a fan because of their performance last night. The lead singer reminded me so much of Gwen Stefani when No Doubt first came out, She is an amazing singer. Plus, the song is pretty catchy.

TI– This performance didn’t get good until he sang/rapped his duet with Rhianna. It is a very cool song, though.

Lil’ Wayne– I really liked this performance because of Leona Lewis. She is amazing! Also, I liked how Lil’ Wayne and T-Pain ran out into the crowd.

Christina- Probably the weakest performance of the night was Pgh’sown Christina. She was obviously lip-syncing and her performance was just strange. Opening with a montage of your own videos?… Aren’t we a little self-centered? Hmm? And her new single is terrible! It’s like some new space age stuff that reminds me of something Britney wouldn’t even sing. Speaking of Britney, Christina’s outfit looks like a copycat version of the same thing Britney wore in her Toxic video in 2003. Get with the times, Christina.

Kayne- Very cool performance outside the studio. He wore a heart pin and there were incredible lighting effects. Great way to close the show.

Jordin Sparks– I just have to mention the fact that Jordin Sparks called out Russell Brand’s comments live. She said that wearing promise rings doesn’t make you bad. In fact, people who wear them choose not to be a slut. I just thought it was pretty cool how this American Idol stuck up for her fans and Jonas Brothers. It was a bit unexpected.

Winners– Best Female- Britney

Best Male- Chris Brown

Best Dance- PussyCat Dolls

Best POP- Britney

Best Rock- Linkin Park

Best Hip-Hop- Lil’ Wayne

Best New artist- Tokyo Hotel

Video of the Year- Britney

MTV Gets a Piece of Britney

September 3, 2008 at 11:04 pm (Funny stuff, Life in your 20's, MTV, blogging, britney on the mend, britney spears, britney to appear on this years VMAs, britney to open this years vmas, culture, entertainment, funny, humor, mtv gets britney to perfrom, music, opinion, television)

The most talked about celebrity rumor in the past weeks has finally been confirmed. Britney Spears will be appearing on this Sunday’s VMAs. She confirmed the news herself stating she was excited to open this year’s VMAs. Here is hoping that it will turn out better than last years fiasco of her hit, “gimme more”. This year’s show does look promising mainly because it actually has a host. Russel Brand (Best know for his role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall) is the master of ceremonies this year. He is a British comedian and I think will do a decent job. You all have to remember that there hasn’t been a good VMA host since Chris Rock back in 1999. MTV has been on a slippery slope these past few years. The programming is poor and their countdown show, TRL has been awful ever since Carson Daly left. I don’t know if Britney performing is going to in any way save MTV. I think if anything, it will raise the ratings because everyone will be wondering if she really is getting better. Good Luck Britney!

** This is Britney’s Video for her song, “Piece of Me” which is nominated for 3 VMAs this year. This may also be the song she opens the show with.

Why Should You Care About Your Favorite Celebrities Political Views?

August 29, 2008 at 2:30 pm (2008 election, Funny stuff, Life in your 20's, Republican National Convention, blogging, celebrities at the DNC, culture, entertainment, funny, hollywood democrats, hollywood republicans, humor, mccain, music, obama, opinion, oprah and obama, politics, presidential election, television, the power of celebrity, think for yourself, views)

We are such a Hollywood-obsessed culture that it was only a matter of time that the celebrities would come out stomping for their favorite political figures. The DNC just wrapped last night and every news organization is applauding Obama for his speech…. Well, almost every news organization (i.e. Fox News… Surprise, surprise there). I constantly search through the Hollywood News every morning and I was surprised at the articles pertaining to the celebrities and politics. I know I shouldn’t be shocked to see that most celebrities are Democrats. Shocker there! But I was wondering why we, the American public should care who these celebrities support. Shouldn’t we be able to make that decision for ourselves or are we so impressionable as a culture that we need our favorite musician to tell us who would be best to run this country?

I will not disclose my political views because I feel that it has nothing to do with this particular article. I will say that the argument is a bit one-sided because Democrats are so dominant in Hollywood. I just wonder what the Republican Convention will hold when it comes to star power? Im sure ARNOLD will be there…. but who else is a Republican in Hollywood and do you think it will play any role having them on TV at the convention? I couldn’t help but laugh when I was reading some articles on ETONLINE.COM this morning. There was one showing Oprah in tears and Ben Affleck, JLO… and so many other celebrities “stomping” for Obama. But do you really think they care about Obama or were they just there to make a public appearance and show that they just care about the photographers and not the politics at all?

I love how celebrities are such posers when it comes to politics. They really think that people will care who they vote for. I know for a fact that there will not be as many celebrities out and about next week during the Republican convention… however, we have re-elected Bush. How beneficial were the celebrities on that regard? Maybe people choose who they want and say “screw the celebs!”? Do you really think Oprah, Ben Affleck, Scarlett Johannson, and all the others have any kind of impact on the elections? Nope. I think they are there for show. I know that I will not allow any celebrity (rep, dem, or other) have any kind of impact on my vote in November. Anyone who is influenced by a celebrity is an idiot. VOTE FOR WHO YOU WANT! NOT FOR SOMEONE JUST BECAUSE YOUR FAVORITE ACTOR TELLS YOU TO DO SO! This is America, People! Vote for who you want!
