What is the definition of “Celebrity”?
Who is your favorite celebrity and why? What makes them so great? Why are you interested in them?
I think there is a lot that goes into earning the term “Celebrity”. One, they need to have the ability to crash and burn within 2 years of reaching fame. I think it’s quite simple actually. First, you have to have some kind of talent that makes you special. Something that no one else knows or can do. This can either be an actual talent (singing, acting, writing) or this can be a talent or affiliation that makes you noticeable. The best example of this is the “reality star”.
The reality star is nothing more than Joe schmo trying to make big in the business. My favorite shows that demonstrate how low our society is sinking are the reality shows on MTV and VH1. Yes, Vh1. I was watching “I Love New York” and that show is such a train-wreck that it seriously makes me laugh yet everytime I watch it a little piece of me dies inside. I seriously think there is something to this reality TV. I mean, check out how many shows are popping up since the writer’s strike. You have Rock of Love, the new show on Fox about lying (sounds like a winner… LAME), American Idol and the ever so popular Shot at Love. I seriously think that reality TV is like the entertainment industries form of obesity. We are so lazy a society that we no longer feel the need to write scripts and train actors. It’s sad really.
Our celebrities today all have such issues in life. My last blog was about the fall of Britney Spears (which I still believe she will be ok). I at least respected the fact that she trained as a dancer and singer. She was in the business since she was 11 like most of young Hollywood. Lindsay Lohan is a prime example of a young woman who did too many stupid things but got caught. I seriously believe that if she was in college and drank that much she would be considered a weakling amongst her peers. There is such a double-standard in Hollywood when it comes to drugs, alcohol, sex and fame. I am not on a feminist rant here but think about it. Justin Timberlake (one of the most popular men in Hollywood) admitted he sleeps around, drinks and smoked pot. Was Entertainment Tonight running specials about him? Nope. Don’t get me wrong, i think Justin is an amazing entertainer. However, there is a double-standard. Is it because girls fall into temptation easier than men? I think that false. I think girls are under a constant microscope.
Entertainers are supposed to entertain. However, what is entertainment these days? Is it TMZ footage of Britney walking around in a pink wig and wedding dress? Perhaps. I always thought the entertainment business was supposed to be movies, music, TV and books. I never thought life could sink so low that from 4-12pm there were constant TV shows like TMZ, The Insider, ET, E!NEWS, Best Week Ever and so on. In America we even have a channel dedicated to entertainment. Too bad it’s not that entertaining. I really don’t find too much entertainment about TOMKAT and their crazy Scientology ways. I think they are a cult. But that’s just my opinion. haha. I think we need to back-off these people who are actors and singers just trying to perform and do their jobs. There aren’t too many of these people left because Hollywood has turned into such a popularity contest. I swear the only people I truly respect in the business are those who want to make movies and sing and write. Who cares if you’re on the cover of People magazine! Do your job and make movies! You should be thankful that you have the opportunity to make films and TV and music and write books. You know how hard it is?! I feel so bad for these people who crave the spotlight one day showing their ass to the cameras outside the hottest nightclubs in Vegas and the next night shoving a Sonic beverage in the cameraman’s face. Make up your mind!
People like Paris Hilton, “New York” and the rest of the TV hasbeens crawling their way back to the top (so to speak) need to get their own reality check. People think you are pieces of shit because you are pieces of shit! You are all either famous for being rich by association, a whorebag or a recovering alcoholic. We don’t need anymore E! True Hollywood Stories. We need “Celebrities” that are famous for making amazing films, TV and music. And also writing books (not by ghostwriters) by themselves! Hollywood needs their writers to return because I am sick of watching these pieces of crap on my TV every night.
