There are so many songs that sound exactly the same on the radio that play in constant rotation and I am sick of it! I need variety and the music industry doesn’t know the meaning of that word. I am a commuter so I listen to the radio often. However, it is not just the radio that I have a problem with. MTV, VH1 all those music channels play the same videos with the same songs with the same beats and cheesy video effects. I don’t understand why guys in bands these days all look like chicks? I thought that girls were supposed to wear makeup but whatever. I personally find it amazing that most of the people who made fun of the pop music craze are fans of these emo-like bands that all sound exactly alike singing about their terrible lives and whatever. At least Nsync had choreography.  Mtv has gone so downhill since the 90s because not only do they not even show videos anymore( the only time you can semi-view a video is on TRL… Blah!). Their programming blows. I can’t handle watching anymore Real World episodes or dating shows. They are all based on the fact that people will do anything to be on TV. The only show that is amusing on MTV is Rob and Big. The show is clever because it isn’t about a “nobody”– Rob Dyrdek is actually quite the businessman. He runs his own companies, is a sponsor for several products (Red Bull, DC shoes) and he is a pretty awesome skater. Christopher “Big Black” Boykin” is also a businessman with his own security agency. I think that MTV made a smart choice to show people who don’t have famous last-names and drug addictions on TV just having fun. Rob and Chris are seriously smart guys. However, I do miss scripted television like Daria, My So Called Life, 2Gether…. and VIDEOS! It’s not a very good thing to have your network resting on the shoulders of ONE successful show. MTV got lucky with the success of Rob and Big but that show won’t be on forever. The network needs to get some new ideas and quick.

Vh1 follows the same basic principle except all their stars are has-beens. Take their NUMBER ONE success— FLAVOR FLAVE! Are you serious?! Think of all the shows that spun-off from the Surreal Life… My Fair Brady, Flavor of Love 1 and 2, Charm School, That show Flavor did with Bridgette, I love NY 1 and 2 (and a ton of reunion shows!) This is insane that a 50 year old rapper is what makes Vh1 a success. That is simply sad. And then you have all the other shows that cast has-been stars (Celebrity Fit Club, Scott Baio 45 and Single, Celebrity Rehab, Surreal Life… ) it’s craziness! Vh1 needs to play VIDEOS! And the thing is that the videos need to be different. The art of the music video is to encompass the meaning of the song. Too bad all the songs out today either deal with giant asses and getting drunk at the club or pretending to be the next Axl Rose.

The music industry needs help and fast. MTV is struggling because the music today sucks. I am only 22 and I find myself listening to my high school CD’s because I can’t handle anymore songs by FERGIE! It makes me sad that when i switch stations I can only hear three different songs and they are all from Chris Brown. Don’t get me wrong, Chris Brown is a very talented young man but I can’t stand his music anymore! The first 100 times of hearing wall to wall was enough! Where did all the music executives go that signed Mariah, Christina, Toni Braxton, Justin Timberlake, Matchbox 20, Eminem, Missy Elliot, Gwen Stefani…. the list can go on forever. I need some variety on my radio dial!

MTV please listen to my pleas and go find some writers and directors and make shows that may help the youth of America since your fan-base is seriously 13-25. I really don’t think many parents would be too pleased to know that their children are watching a three-some in a hot-tub. Just sayin’. Once the music industry and MTV get their heads out their asses then possibly I will be able to return to listening to a variety of Today’s hit music. Until then, I’m stuck with my Cd’s from 2000.
