What’s going on with the entertainment business?

May 27, 2008 at 1:05 am (9 dollars to see a movie, Funny stuff, Life in your 20's, Paris Hilton, SAG strike, TV fans, blogging, culture, entertainment, entertainment news, entertainment weekly, funny, gossip, here comes another strike in Hollywood, humor, movie stars want too much money and make crappy movies, movies and TV suck, news, opinion, personal, reality shows, say goodbye to movies, television)

I’m kinda sick of hearing about all the gossip about all these “a list” stars when none of them have done a damn thing worth spending 9 dollars to see! I keep hearing about personal lives and pregnancy and whatever else but no one is making a decent film! All I want to do this summer is work and then go see movies that are worth seeing…. too bad there aren’t any! The entertainment business has taken a serious nosedive in the past couple years and as a movie and TV fan I want to know whats up with LA?

Im sick of no-talent whores taking up all the space on my TV screen.. i.e. Paris Hilton, Denise Richards, Lindsay Lohan… the list can go on and on. I want to actually turn on my tv and watch a scripted show worth seeing for the writing and acting and not just the cameo appearances. Ever since the writer’s strike the entertainment business has been struggling. The ratings for almost all TV shows have tanked and box office numbers have also dropped. Why is that? Well, some can blame the economy because not many people have the luxury of spending 10 dollars to see a film. I buy that argument to a point but if these studios actually spent money properly and didn’t pay oh Will Smith 20 million dollars to act in a movie that will only make 40 million domestically we wouldn’t have this problem. We are so celebrity obsessed that we care more about the celebrity then their work. It’s retarded.

The SAG are now going on strike soon (I read about this in last weeks EW). How will this affect Hollywood??? Well, not in a good way. This will certainly screw up the opportunities of those writers, actors, production assistants who are trying to make it in the business (ME, for one). I don’t get what this strike is about. I read a little about it and how there is a lot of bad blood between actors and studio heads but I don’t get the whole deal. I certainly think that if/when the SAG go on strike that Hollywood will once again be shutdown and all those people who lost their jobs during the WGA strike will again be out of work. It’s simply the hypocrisy of the business.

Movie/TV fans you all need to unite and demand better TV and movies because the way this business is going it’s looking like we are all stuck watching our collection of TV DVD box sets. May god have mercy on us all.

What’s on your Ipod?

May 14, 2008 at 2:34 am (Funny stuff, Life in your 20's, blogging, cheesy pop music, culture, dr. dre, elton john, eminem, entertainment, favorite music, favorite songs, funny, green day, humor, imix, jason mraz, jason mraz new cd, looking for music for weddings, looking for new music, music, music you love and relate to, my chemical romance, my top 25 songs, needing new songs to listen to, the radio is stale, the song from the ipod commercial, what is on your ipod?)

I was searching through my cd collection this past weekend and needless to say I had some interesting finds. I am one for variety and my ipod certainly reflects that. I have music for running/walking in the park, driving to work, mellow moods, angry moods, funny moods and whatever other emotions I can think of. I think the Ipod is genius for looking into a person’s personality…  Think about how much you can tell about a person just by the music they listen to. I went through my own personal Itunes library and this is a taste of what music I listen to on a daily basis and maybe this list would give you some ideas for your own personal Ipod libraries…. Enjoy!!

Jason Mraz- anything really but his new album is amazing!!! This is for a mellow kindof day. “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things”

My Chemical Romance– This is for my angry moments but I also put it on when I just want to listen to some pop/punk music. “The Black Parade/ Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge”

Britney Spears/Nsync/Spice Girls/cheesy 90s pop— This is the happy-go-lucky music that always gets me jamming in the car and making a complete ass of myself. Good times.

Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin/oldies in general— another type of music that is definitely for a mood. I used to listen to this when I was studying for tests or writing papers because I can’t stand classical music but Sinatra always helped me to concentrate.

Rap/Hip-hop— I have to admit that I do listen to hip-hop and rap on occasion but I am not a dedicated fan… right now I am sick and tired of the radio. All the radio does is play the same songs over and over and they all sound the same. I do have some Eminem, Dr. Dre, Jay Z… you know, the staples of hip-hop but nothing really “new”. Radio and MTV are so shitty lately that I am going back to my own personal ‘Oldies’ like Nsync…. it’s kindof sad. haha.

My top 20 songs—-

How Far We’ve come— Matchbox 20

Bye bye bye– Nsync

Toy Soldier– Britney Spears

This is How I disappear– My Chemical Romance

Wall to Wall– Chris Brown

Fancy Footwork– Cameo

Bones— The Killers

Somebody Told me– The Killers

Geek in the Pink– Jason Mraz

Nine in the Afternoon– Panic at the Disco

That’s How you know– Amy Adams (enchanted soundtrack)

u+me=us– 2gether

Crocodile Rock– Elton John

Just a Girl– No Doubt

I want you back– Nsync

Basket Case– Green Day

MotownPhilly– Boyz II Men

Shut up and let me go– the ting tings (this is the song in the new Ipod commercial)

Can I get get get– Junior Senior

Lucky– jason Mraz

My Life as a Nanny

May 9, 2008 at 10:46 pm (6841229, Funny stuff, Hannah Montana, Nickelodeon, ace of cakes, babysitting little kids, being a nanny for two year old twins, blogging, changing diapers, cheesy pop songs, credit debts, culture, disney princess, disney songs stuck in my head, economic stimulus, elmo, food network, funny, george w bush sucks ass, high school musical, humor, kids shows, life as a nanny, music, pbs shows, politics, professions after college, real-life situations, refunds, sesame street, student loans, television, watching TV, working with children, writing, yo gabba gabba)

It’s been too long since my last blog entry. Sorry about that. Haha! I have been so busy for the past couple weeks that I haven’t had the time to blog about anything important. I did get a new job in that past month and that has been the main cause of forgetting about my blog. I am actually a nanny now. It is kindof funny that an English major ends up becoming a nanny. I mean, what else was I supposed to do after graduating from college? My only options were becoming a nanny or enlisting in the armed services. I wish I was kidding. The economy is kicking everyone’s ass especially recent college graduates. I graduated in December and it took me until APRIL to find a full-time job. I still have friends that have part-time jobs because it is so difficult to find a job out of school. I think it’s funny how good ‘ol George W. thinks that giving me a 600 dollar check is going to solve all my problems. Umm… nope, it’s not. I am doing what most smart people would do and that’s use to pay off my credit card debt. I don’t have much debt but I have enough that makes me want to save that 600 bucks and use it for something other than clothes, sunglasses or a night on the town. The economy is shit and he wants me to go party it up with my friends in Vegas with this 600 bucks? What a retard.

So, back to my new job… I am a nanny (full-time) and that consists of me working about 45 hrs a week watching 2yr old twins (a boy and a girl). They are adorable but don’t let that fool you… they are TWO. The boy is crazy smacking everyone in the head with his sippy cups and the girl is sweet and adorable yet sneaky and likes to runoff. They are the dynamic duo. Haha. I do love my job, though. I work 8-5 Monday thru Friday and they nap (usually) from 1230-230. I like the fact that I still have my evenings and weekends free but I tend to fall asleep at 930 now because of my crazy schedule. During their naps, I wash the dishes from lunch and clean the floors and table. I then relax with my pb&j and vitamin water and watch Food Network. I don’t know what’s with my new fascination with that channel is all about but I really enjoy that show Ace of Cakes. Don’t mind me, I’m lame.

I also take them for walks around the neighborhood. If you don’t know, Pittsburgh is nothing but giant hills and valleys. I tend to walk for about 45 minutes leaving me gasping for breath by the time I get the stroller back into the garage with the twins saying, “More, more walk?” I can only handle so much when it comes to pushing 40lbs up a hill. I have re-connected with my classic Disney songs on my computer from back in the day when I worked at a child care center. I started jamming to “Under the Sea” today and it brought me back to the easier times in life watching Sebastian the crab sing about life in the aquatic worlds with fishes and seaweed. I also listen to the new Disney stuff… you know, High School Musical, Hannah Montana, Enchanted. It’s not too bad. There isn’t much to say about kid’s tv today except the fact that Yo Gabba Gabba saved me from the horrible new Sesame Streets. Sesame Street sucks now! I am so disappointed in the show. Elmo is lame and Big Bird is gay. Yo Gabba Gabba at least entertains me. I was watching Sesame Street and slowing filling with rage. It was bad. Yo Gabba Gabba is good though because they repeat themselves like crazy and it helps with speech with the little ones. The songs are catchy too.

I think the fun parts of the job are the times when I jut watch the kids play. They have this thing where they take all of their stuffed animals and place them in chairs at the kitchen table and serve them lunch. It’s too cute. Another thing is when they have their diapers changed and then immediately after they take their Elmo doll and change his diaper. Of course, they do fight with eachother. The boy is at the age where he likes to push, shove, throw, and smack. He always wants his way and cries when he doesn’t get what he wants. The new thing is he likes to run around with no pants on. I had to put a one-z on him because he kept trying to take his diaper off. The girl on the other hand is pretty sweet but again if she doesn’t get her way, watch out. She is starting to defend herself against her brother by shoving and hitting. The thing that they both like to do is when they don’t feel like eating they simply take their plate of food smile at me and then proceed to toss it onto the floor. The sippy cup of milk is not far behind. They are a handful but entertaining. I think this is the best job because my day goes so fast. I start at eight and before I know it it’s time to make lunch then naptime then time to go home. By Friday, I am beat. I am probably going to go straight home tonite, maybe rent a movie and pass out on my couch.
